Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) is making plans to extend its fleet with a new LPG vessel that will boost gas availability and volume in the country, in a bid to further its organizational goals in broadening the domestic Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) industry and expand utilization.
NLNG is the largest supplier of LPG and is looking to further expand its operations. Currently, LPG is produced in Rivers State and transported to Lagos State from where it is distributed to other parts of the country; in its bid to develop the LPG market and build the nation’s economy.
The new LPG vessel is to be built by an indigenous Nigerian company, under contract with a South Korean company, Hyundai Mipo Dockyard and subsequently chartered to NLNG. The capacity of the new vessel is to be 23,000 cubic metres is set to be delivered in the year 2020.
NLNG is already working with other indigenous Nigerian companies to promote initiatives that provide materials that feed stock into the manufacture of the parts of the new LPG vessel. Companies such as Nexans Kabelmetal, manufactures steel cables that are used in the construction of dual fuel diesel engines for LNG carriers; as well as Berger Paints Nigeria, exports almost 500,000 litres of paints involved for the construction of the LNG carriers.
The current LPG production by NLNG stands at 22,000 million tonnes per annum and the new addition should raise the volume to around 30,000 million.
