In a bid to curb gas flaring within the nation, it has been declared by the FG that come 2019, oil companies who continue to persist in gas flaring acts will have their operating licenses revoked. The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Mr. Ibe Kachikwu states that the government has been battling oil companies over their resistance on ending gas flaring attempts.
The attempts made by the government to end gas flaring gave rise to the Gas Flare Commercialisation programme. In combating gas flaring efforts, for future issuance of operating licenses, the government has pledged to inspect oil and gas equipment of such companies as well as assessing their gas flare rates. All the above efforts are set to create jobs and bring much needed boost to the oil and gas sector.
The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has been called in to quicken the efforts in issuing Domestic Supply Obligation (DSO) to ensure that gas is distributed utilized efficiently. Privately owned Gas companies such as Luxxorgas, are making groundbreaking efforts in the distribution and commercialization of Natural Gas in West Africa.
