In the aim to ensure that flared gas is channeled into more sustainable use, The Flare Gas Reduction Regulation 2018, which is to be administered under the National Gas Flare Commercialisation Programme (NGFCB), has now been approved by President Muhammadu Buhari.

This step has been taken in light of the costs that have accrued from gas flaring, as well as potential revenue lost due to the inability to capture and commercialise flared gas.

The NGFCP Programme Manager, Justice Derefaka, has disclosed that key sections of the regulation have been completed and await commercialisation to the public by the third quarter of 2018. The NGFCP’s regulation is designed to be a tool to attract private sector investments.

In addition, by embracing the regulation, and utilizing flared gas effectively, it can create jobs, drive the gas sector and generate electricity that can be used to drive the economy. Privately owned Gas companies such as Luxxorgas, are making groundbreaking efforts in the distribution and commercialization of Natural Gas in West Africa
