NNPC eyes 3.4 billion cubic feet of domestic gas supply

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) in a bid to bridge gas supply deficiencies and achieve the nation’s strategic aspirations, plans to deliver 3.4 billion standard cubic feet per day of natural gas. This is to bridge the existing gas deficit of about 3 million standard cubic feet per day by 2020.

Natural Gas is required as a tool in achieving adequate power provision and to improve the economy of the nation. Presently, only less than half of Nigeria’s Population has access to elecricity off the grid. NNPC intends to identify several gas development projects, that will contribute in reaching and supporting the power supply utilization of approximately 15 Gigawatts (GW). This is to enable Nigeria become the center for gas based industries such as Petrochemical,  Fertilizer and LNG.

7 key gas development projects have been identified that will accomplish the above goals; two of which are to be undertook by the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC), and the rest by the NNPC/JV.
