The Pipelines and Product Marketing Company, PPMC, which is a subsidiary of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company, NNPC is taking steps to expand the Liquefied Petroleum Gas, LPG or cooking gas market and promote its use across the country.

One of the steps to be implemented is to make available LPG truck skids in all 21 depots across the country. The aim is to bring LPG closer to consumers, especially those in rural communities. Bringing LPG to these areas reduces dependence on charcoal and firewood which in turn helps to reduce health complication, reducing deforestation and contributing positively to the environment.

Other measures that are to be taken include increasing the capacity of LPG facilities as well as upgrading these facilities to digital across the country. By acquiring new vessels for LPG transport as well as facilitating good relationships with utilities in the gas supply chain. Supporting various gas to health initiatives and partnering with industry regulatory bodies to ensure that the petroleum products that go through the supply chain do so more efficiently; thereby reaching the intended consumer.

The above efforts are set in hopes of expanding the nation into a global distribution hub for LPG. Privately owned energy companies such as Luxxorgas and LuxxorPower, are making groundbreaking efforts in positioning themselves to be able to the distribute and commercialize  commercially sensible hydrocarbons and other power sources in West Africa
